Removing Jagua Tattoos

Jagua ink, derived from the fruit of the Genipa americana tree, is commonly used for creating temporary tattoos. Once this gel is washed off, the underneath stain is often not present yet or is very very faint. The jagua does what I call "Ghosting" and can really have someone concerned they removed their entire new jagua tattoo. That is totally normal and a fun part of the jagua tattoo process to watch unfold.​

To Remove your Jagua Tattoo

To successfully remove your jagua tattoo you can follow some of these tips:

1.)Gently run the tattoo under warm or cool water and apply soap. 

2.) Wash the area with soap and running water to remove any residue on top of the skin. If you only wet towel wipe you will receive a smeared stain

3.) You can scrub and wash a few times to make sure you have removed your jagua gel ink

4.) Pat the skin dry with a clean towel and do not moisturize until the next day. 

Sometimes jagua gel will flake and peel off the skin after application, however, you'll still need to wash the area with running water later that day.
I like to tell my clients leave the gel on as long as possible, and before sleeping make sure to hop in the shower to rinse away the remaining jagua pieces left on top of the skin. ​

Removing jagua ink from your skin is a simple process if done with care.

Remember to take care of your jagua tattoo to extend the length of time you have your stain. Some jagua tattoo stains can last 3 weeks when located in an area with little washing or chaffing coupled with proper after care.
